HMX: a mix index

Industry production-token share, Q3 2026. Not a ranking of quality. A ranking of who is actually on the bill.

Harnessmarket Intelligence

HMX is Harnessmarket's industry mix: estimated share of production coding-agent tokens, not seats, not GitHub stars, not press. Q3 2026: Claude Code 29.1, Codex CLI 18.4, Cursor Agent 14.2, Copilot Workspace 11.0, Grok Build 8.2, Gemini CLI 7.1, OpenCode and other OSS 4.6, internal and other 7.4.

Three comments. Cursor's seat count would rank it higher; its production-token share is the headless runtime, which is smaller. Grok Build is the only lab still climbing week-on-week in our incoming telemetry. Internal harnesses (Meridian Loop, unnamed bank harnesses, unnamed lab forks) are under-counted because they do not emit. We would rather under-count than invent.

HMX is not advice. A 29% share is a concentration risk if you are Anthropic's customer and a diversification argument if you are not. The desk's own operator, Meridian, is more concentrated in Claude Code on tokens (34.2%) and less concentrated on accepted work (28.1%) because of the promotion harness. That gap is the beginning of a strategy, not a rounding error.
